Cure the Sunday Scaries

Here we are. It’s Sunday afternoon again. For some it’s a cheerful time of hanging out with friends, napping or relaxing with a good book. While others are struggling with the reality of going back to work tomorrow.

I’ve lived both. I’ll take the relaxing Sunday over the Sunday Scaries anytime. There was a season in my life when my mood changed around noon on Sunday. I became distant, unhappy and downright unpleasant. That’s when my husband coined the phrase “Sunday Scaries”. Unfortunately, I hung out in that world for far too long. What a waste of time?!?!

Here are 3 things that helped me pull through:

  1. Work is work - It’s not my identity. Stop taking it personally.
  2. I have a choice - I don’t have to live like this. If I don’t like it, I can change it.
  3. Stop wasting precious time -Time marched on, whether I was happy or not. So why not be happy?

Simple enough, right? It’s easy to let the dread of the upcoming work week consume you. When you feel the Sunday Scaries creeping up, call it out and remind yourself that you have a choice. Maybe you change your job. Maybe you change your mind. What you do for a living, how you spend your time and use your gifts is up to you. Whatever your solution is, know that you have the power to make your life better and you deserve to be happy.
